A popular post on the blog The Uncataloged Museum poses the question, “Are county historical societies dinosaurs?” In the post, long-time museum advocate Linda Norris argues that too many community organizations are struggling with an unmanageable collection, a lack of energy, and an inability to reimagine their mission in the 21st century to meet the needs of changing communities. Fear not, however, as representatives from four historical societies and small community museums from across the country will share ideas about how to enhance the relevance of these cultural institutions. Together, presenters and attendees will attempt to share 75 ideas for creative strategies that have succeeded (or failed) in engaging new audiences in museums much like their own.
