Collection objects are traditionally viewed by the public in static museum environments. Yet sites and museums that use collections to interpret authentic techniques and intangible cultural heritage have wrestled with the protocol required to balance collections stewardship and public engagement. The speakers will address the history of managing permanent and loaned collections for use, including sharing policies and procedures. A variety of collection objects—from music boxes to farm equipment—will be discussed in the presentations.
