Artist-in-residence (AiR) programs were originally designed to provide writers, painters and musicians with a venue to explore new ideas as part of a community. The growing emphasis on social engagement and cultural exchange has now made AiR a valuable addition to museum programming. This session will explore how AiR programs can create transformative experiences for artists, museums and their communities through the reinterpretation of collections and outreach in a wide variety of museum settings.
