A quarter century after Steven Weil’s essay, “A Meditation on Small and Large Museums,” his ideas continue to influence us: the community relevance of smaller museums with close connections and efficiency, but challenged by less staff, money and space. Larger museums with bigger budgets struggle to cultivate diverse audiences but can reach out in ways small museums can’t. Panelists will share strategies museums use to fulfill their missions and engage 25 years after the original discussion.
