AAM Getting Started sessions present basic and practical information on selected topics that have cross-functional appeal. This session covers the basics of exhibition development. Designed for museum professionals at all career levels, this 75-minute session presents one approach to developing exhibitions, focusing on the linear and non-linear aspects of creating a three-dimensional learning environment. During this session, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how to prepare for and start planning for a new exhibition project; combine a linear, phased design process with non-linear, creative thinking; ensure exhibitions address audience needs, including ADA guidelines and pedagogical
approaches for informal learning environments; apply this new knowledge by collaborating with colleagues to create a prototype exhibit and find resources to continue learning about exhibition development. Whether planning a new exhibition or renovating an old one, this session will help reframe your thinking about exhibition planning.
